Johnstons of Elgin Ltd are a luxury textile producer operating in the Highlands and Islands for over two centuries. They manufacture and sell luxury textiles globally (clothing, home interiors and accessories) using mainly cashmere from Mongolia and China and merino wool from Australia. They are currently working with the department of Design Manufacture and Engineering Management at the University of Strathclyde to increase profitability and grow market share, particularly overseas, through introduction of new process modelling, optimisation and control; ultimately reducing product variability and waste.
