Manufacturing Engineer/Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate

Full Time : 35 Hours

Fixed Term : 22 Months

Salary range to £26,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications

Based : Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire 

EME (Educational & Municipal Equipment Limited) is an established manufacturer and supplier of loose/mobile educational furniture, supplying schools, Universities and the further education sector throughout the UK.  Their durable furniture ranges, which are fully assembled from the raw materials to the finished product, are made to order within the manufacturing facility at Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire.  

University of the West of Scotland (UWS) and EME are offering an exciting opportunity to a degree-qualified and dependable Manufacturing Engineer to support EME in achieving change in its new facility in Sanquhar, where this role will be based.  The post is a 22-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between the company and UWS, and has the potential for permanent employment. 

The successful candidate will be a trusted member of the production team and will be expected, with support from a highly cooperative community of academic experts, to lead change within the company through innovative facility and plant design as well as developing new and innovative products for the educational manufacturing market.  They will undertake research in manufacturing methods, layout planning and implementation using innovative manufacturing methods. Additional academic support will be provided by a close community of industry-focused inter-disciplinary research groups and the successful applicant should exhibit entrepreneurial flair, and proactively communicate with researchers throughout the University. 

Interested candidates should be committed to achieving the desired change in the company and have at least an honours degree or equivalent in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering or similar related discipline.  They should have a good knowledge of layout planning and lean manufacturing methods, and experience in CAD and product design. A successful candidate will be sensitive to company’s needs, be able to develop warm client relationships and demonstrate that they have the ability to design and use CAD software, Robotics and automated production.
