Manufacturing Engineer/Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate

Full Time : 35 Hours

Fixed Term : 24 Months

Salary range to £26,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications 

EME is an established manufacturer and supplier of loose/mobile educational furniture (classroom tables, storage units, cloakroom furniture, libraries, chairs and upholstered items), supplying schools, Universities and the further education sector throughout the UK.  Their durable furniture ranges, which are fully assembled from the raw materials to the finished product, are made to order within the manufacturing facility at Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire. 

UWS and EME are seeking a degree-qualified and ambitious Manufacturing Engineer to support EME, in its radical change and move to a new facility in Sanquhar, where this role will be based.  The post is a 24-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between the company and the University of the West of Scotland, and has the potential for permanent employment. 

The successful candidate will be a key member of the production team and will be expected, with support from a team of academic experts, to lead change within the company through innovative facility and plant design as well as developing new and innovative products for the educational manufacturing market.  They will undertake research in manufacturing methods, layout planning and implementation using innovative manufacturing methods.

Interested candidates should have at least an honours degree or equivalent in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering or similar related discipline.  They should have a good knowledge of layout planning and lean manufacturing methods together with experience of CAD and product design. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate that they have the ability to design and use CAD software, Robotics and automated production, work independently and as part of a team and have the necessary skills to manage and drive change within the workforce.
