KTP Associate: Digitalisation for Decarbonisation

A Collaborative project to support the strategic decarbonisation and sustainability roadmap of the Crichton Trust. The KTP-Associate will be involved in the design of a digital modelling capability that will inform the management and planning of local energy services at the Crichton Estate. With expertise in energy systems, smart grids and energy trading, the Associate will support the Crichton in understanding the challenges and opportunities within its ambitious plans for a Smart Local Energy System (SLES) that supports the local community within the Crichton Estate.

The position is located in The Crichton Trust, Dumfries. The Crichton is an 85 acre parkland estate steeped in history and located on the outskirts of Dumfries in the south west of Scotland. The grounds and landscaped gardens are free and accessible to the public all year round. The Crichton is a vibrant business and academic community with over 100 businesses and 5 academic partners currently located here. The Crichton Memorial Church sits proudly at the heart of The Crichton, next to the Holiday Inn Hotel and only a 2 minute walk from the rock garden, Easterbrook Bistro, Bar & Spa and Easterbrook Hall, the largest auditorium in the South of Scotland.

This post will be at the forefront of energy transition and sustainability research, whilst located in the beautiful and historic setting of the Crichton Estate, will local stakeholder engagement as to create An Energy Audit of the Crichton Estate and will involve design improvements in Operational and Planning Decision Support using digital technologies and energy system analysis. The KTP Associate will be responsible for the Project Management of what is a large multidisciplinary project spread across different building assets with different functions.

Candidates should have a 1st Class BEng (Hons) degree in Engineering with Energy System specialism. Ideally the candidate will have a MSc/Meng or PhD in energy systems modelling, multi-agent modelling and smart grids.

As a minimum the associate will have research experience of studying energy networks, community energy systems and/or operational decision support research. Skills in multi-agent modelling, software and data analysis will be required in order to support understanding the near and long term sustainability options for the Crichton Estate. Experience in using energy system models, building stock models and dynamic building simulation. Experience in technical writing e.g. reports, white papers and/or academic publications would also be an advantage to support the dissemination of findings.

Candidates should have excellent engagement and communications skills in order to support partnerships with key stakeholders on the Crichton Estate. He or She will have to establish and lead engagements with strategic external stakeholders and suppliers who will provide enabling technologies and technical expertise for integration of decarbonisation technologies to the Crichton Trust Estate.
