Predictive Maintenance Development Engineer (KTP Associate)

The Predictive Maintenance Development Engineer (KTP Associate) will be an employee of Glasgow Caledonian University but will be based at Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems Europe Ltd headquarters in Livingston with regular supervision meetings with the University’s supervisory team.  This is a full-time/fixed term opportunity for 36 months.

An additional £6,000 training and development budget is available for this opportunity.

The Role
The KTP Associate will be taking a leading role in the deployment of Industry 4.0 technologies and predictive analytics for condition monitoring within the Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems Europe factory. The factory is undertaking a dramatic transformation to become a new Smart Factory to help to increase efficiency, capacity and maintain the workforce within the plant. During this process the Associate will also be guided to generate high quality academic research publications and disseminate their work at international conferences.

A minimum of a higher degree (preferably having an MSc, MEng or PhD, in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Electro-mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant Engineering Science subject area which includes numerical and software skills is required coupled with a desire to work in a manufacturing environment.

They should also have:

  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Experience with one of the following software languages: Python, or C++
  • Innovative and Creative thinking skills.
  • Excellent numerical and computational skills.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • The ability to work under minimal supervision and within multi-skilled teams.
  • The ability to take initiative and project manage.
  • Willingness to travel.

The post also includes a generous development budget for training, travel, conference attendance and equipment.

Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems Limited
Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems Europe Ltd (M-ACE) is a manufacturing base, located in Livingston, Scotland, which manufactures air-conditioning and heat-pump systems as part of the global Mitsubishi Electric portfolio of products, supplying into mainly Europe, Middle East and Africa. M-ACE is the sole European manufacturer in the ME Corporate structure of heat pump systems for the European domestic market. It is an overseas subsidiary company of Shizuoka Works in Japan, and forms a part of the Living Environment & Digital Media Equipment Group of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.

The M-ACE business itself is a very vertically integrated manufacturer, with several primary manufacturing processes including traditional pressing, moulding, welding and brazing as well as advanced robotic handling systems, testing systems, Helium leak detection systems, refrigerant charging and monitoring processes and assembly processes. With a turnover of c. £210m and a healthy expected growth path, the company’s product range sits at the forefront of modern Air Conditioning and Heat Pump solutions, and it is well positioned to capitalise on the swing towards more environmentally-friendly heating and cooling solutions throughout European and UK markets.

There is a possibility that Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems Europe Ltd may recruit the Associate at the end of the project.
