North of Scotland KTP Centre response to Covid-19

The current situation COVID-19 is dynamic, with government advice evolving in response to changing circumstances.  The North of Scotland KTP Centre’s contingency planning aims to allow the team to maintain its service provision, even as additional restrictions apply.

The team are able to deliver much of the KTP service without the need of a central office.  Much of the KTP network, including our funders (Innovate UK, Scottish Funding Council and UKRI research councils), Advisers (the Knowledge Transfer Network), Knowledge Base partners and KTP Centre team members are able to work remotely, however it is recognised that not all businesses will have this capability.

The Delay and Mitigate phases of Government’s COVID-19 action plan aim to limit personal interactions. Personal interactions are a key element of the KTP process; in the current situation, this is considered the main vulnerability in the delivery of the programme. However, with the smart use of technology and flexibility on all sides, the KTP Centre team aim to sustain progress within KTP projects and maintain a good level of service to all our partners.

The North of Scotland KTP Centre have identified 3 overriding priorities:

  1. To keep ourselves and others safe
  2. To maintain support for active KTP projects and new partnerships in build to the best of our ability
  3. To uphold the underlying principles of the KTP programme: enabling businesses to bring in new skills and the latest academic thinking to deliver a specific, strategic innovation project through a knowledge-based partnership, driving innovation and business growth.

In order to maintain business continuity and support Innovate UK’s response to COVID-19, the KTP Centre has implemented the following plan:

  • All North of Scotland KTP Centre staff are now working remotely. Please continue to contact your nominated member of the team as usual. For general enquiries, please use the email address, which will be continuously monitored.
  • All of our landlines have been set up to forward calls to alternative numbers.
  • KTP Centre staff and Knowledge Transfer Advisers will attend all LMC and business / project development meetings via phone or video conference until further notice.
  • KTP Associates should keep up to date with their academic partner’s current guidance but follow local policies when based at their company partner or other sites. Company and academic supervision can be delivered via phone/video as appropriate.
  • Innovate UK’s Claims team have requested that every effort should be made to meet the existing claims schedule for each project. Please contact us in case of any difficulties.
  • No extra funding is available at Innovate UK to support additional costs incurred during the current situation.
  • There are no planned changes to the competition schedule. The next planned submission deadlines are 6th May and 15th July 2020.

Please contact the KTP Centre team if you have specific questions or concerns about your project.
