This is a great opportunity to apply your engineering and design expertise in an ambitious three-year project, and become a key part of the future strategy of Norscot Homes.

Norscot are working in partnership with Northumbria University to explore the future of smarter and more adaptable homes. You will benefit from the ongoing support and guidance of a wider project team from the Company and the University, but will have the opportunity to own and drive the project.

Norscot manufacture and supply timber frame house kits and external windows and doors. The main customer is the self-build and domestic market but they also work with local authorities and housing associations. Their services include design, draughting, approvals, erecting timber frame structures and retrofitting windows and doors.

This KTP project will help Norscot introduce new ways of working more closely with their customers with the objective of developing affordable, modular, 'smart homes' which can adapt to the owners needs through time. The Associate will be required to develop a working knowledge of Smart Home Technologies, Value Based Design, Health, Wellbeing and Ageing - to guide the partnership in the development of usable products for different audiences. Technical challenges will include developing: 1. Easy to use, cost effective and affordable solutions for the client; 2. A platform which meets current building regulations and housing policies; 3. Integrates well with existing products and solutions.
