Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Data Scientist or strongly related field postgraduate to fast-track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate in Data Science with emphasis on Machine Learning and Machine Vision (image and video processing/ analysis). You will undertake a 2-year collaborative project between Atlas Knowledge and Robert Gordon University (School of Computing Science and Digital Media). The post will be based predominantly at the company in Aberdeen, and the post holder will take a leading role in the design, development and evaluation of a set of intelligent tools and algorithms for an E-learning platform that will enable remote authentication of users.

You will receive extensive practical and formal training, gain marketable skills, broaden knowledge and expertise within an industrially relevant project, and gain valuable experience from industrial and academic mentors. You will benefit from a Personal Development Budget of £4,000. You will also have the opportunity to enrol as an MRes student (Master by Research) in closely related field (i.e. Data Science, Machine Learning, etc.).

You must possess a postgraduate degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computing or a strongly related discipline. PhD in Data Science, Information Engineering, Machine Learning or similar field is highly desirable. You should be self-motivated with an ability to work independently and to tight deadlines within a dynamic and small team environment. In addition, you must have strong programming skills as well as a genuine enthusiasm for applying advanced methods to a real-world problem. Strong knowledge and understanding of programming languages such as R, Python, or similar langue is essential. Experience in handling unstructured data is highly desirable and team working and flexibility will be a key requirement.

Salary Range: £28,000 to 34,000 with a review after one year and a possible completion bonus upon successful completion of the project.

Position Type: Full Time, Fixed Term 2 years, with potential for further permanent employment within Atlas Knowledge upon contract completion.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Whilst working on company premises report to and take direction from Head of Technology. Whilst working at Robert Gordon University report to and take direction from Dr. Eyad Elyan

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibilities

Take a leading role in designing, implementing and evaluating an intelligent set of methods to allow remote authentication of users of an online E-learning platform.
Transfer knowledge of data science and state-of the art machine learning techniques to Atlas Knowledge.
Develop technical and personal skills (verbal and written) to meet the requirements of an increasing responsibility and experience level.

Deliver the project objectives as detailed in the KTP project proposal.
Undertake in-depth literature review in the area of machine learning, image processing and video analysis with emphasis on users identification using Face Recognition, Keystroke Classification or other biometric methods.
Explore, understand and critically evaluate existing technologies at Atlas Knowledge.
Take a leading role in developing and evaluating authentication models.
Maintain an up-to-date project plan and provide a progress report for presentation at regular Local Management Committee (LMC) meetings.
Deliver presentations to immediate project team members and technical experts.
Any other duties that maybe reasonable, assigned by the Academic Supervisor/ Company Supervisor.

Qualifications and Professional Memberships
Postgraduate degree in Data Science, Computing or a strongly related discipline.

Knowledge and Experience
Strong knowledge of machine learning, machine vision and the underlying theories.
Strong programming skills (i.e. R, Python, etc…).
Experience in Data science related discipline (Recent graduates with strong technical skills as outlined are welcome to apply).
Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and to tight deadlines within a dynamic and small team environment.
An ability to undertake independent research and development analysis.
Willingness and ability to learn fast.
Strong programming and scripting skills.
Good communication and report writing skills.
