Software Engineer - Blockchain/AI (KTP Associate)

The Software Engineer – Blockchain/AI (KTP Associate) will be an employee of Glasgow Caledonian University but will based at the Intrallect Ltd headquarters in Edinburgh with regular supervision meetings with the University’s supervisory team.

This is a full-time/fixed term opportunity for 33 months.

The Role

The KTP Associate will be immersed in the latest Blockchain, Data Visualization and Predictive Analytics technologies, developing a detailed understanding of these state of the art technologies including commercial and open source offerings. They will build expert level experience quickly within the fastest sets of disruptive technologies and apply them to a significant industrial problem. The Associate will also be expected to generate high quality academic research publications and generate industrial public relations materials.

A minimum of a BSc/BEng(honours) degree or higher in either Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics or Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which includes a high degree of numerical and analytics skills coupled with extremely strong programming skills in Python, Java or Javascript, with some exposure to C/C++.

They should also have:

  • Strong programming skills e.g. in Node.js, Python, Go, in the context of API development.
  • Understanding of UI development for web applications.
  • Exposure to the full software development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency with code versioning tools and continuous integration.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, NoSQL databases e.g. MongoD, Cassandra or CouchDB.
  • Innovative and Creative thinking skills.
  • The desire to develop commercial and business experience.
  • Excellent numerical and computational skills.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • The ability to work under minimal supervision and within multi-skilled teams.
  • The ability to take initiative and project manage.
  • Willingness to travel.

The post also includes a generous development budget for training, travel, conference attendance and equipment.

This position forms part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by Innovate UK and the Scottish Funding Council. KTP helps businesses to innovate and grow by linking them with a university. High calibre graduates are employed to work on specific projects of strategic importance to companies, whilst being supported by a dedicated academic team.
