KTP Associate in partnership with The Glass Scribe International

The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Strathclyde in partnership with the Glass Scribe International. (https://www.glassscribe.com) seek to recruit a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate. The KTP is a trilateral collaborative project between the Associate, the University and an industrial partner (see www.ktponline.org.uk).

The Glass Scribe International (GSI) was launched in 1983. Starting with a few select pieces of glassware, Simon and Gina Fletcher engraved trophies, awards and presentation pieces, for local clubs and companies. As one of the fore-runners of commercial glass engraving, the company soon turned its attentions to the Wholesale supply of everything concerned with this market. Today, GSI trades from a fully equipped 13,000 sq. ft. factory unit, based in Dingwall, Ross-shire.

The University of Strathclyde has an established record of collaboration with industry partners. The KTP Associate will be an employee of the University of Strathclyde but will spend significant amount of time at Glass Scribe International premises in Dingwall. The position has an additional allocated training budget of £4,000 for personal development. This opportunity will see the KTP Associate involved in the development of new innovative methods for glass scribing industry. The partnership will provide a unique opportunity for a dedicated graduate to be instrumental in developing new innovative ways in microfabrication of polymeric materials. You will engage with the company in training and understanding the glass engraving manufacturing processes.

To be considered for the role you will be educated to a minimum MSc in a relevant discipline (e.g. physical sciences, engineering) or have equivalent relevant experience. You will have strong software and materials knowledge, software development experience in C/C++ or Perl, and familiar with open source operating system such as UNIX. You must be personable and capable of working effectively as part of a team and on your own initiative.
