FTE:  1.0

The Department of Design, Manufacture and Engineering Management (DMEM) at the University of Strathclyde in partnership with Long Lane Deliveries Ltd. (www.longlanedeliveries.co.uk) seek to appoint a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate. The KTP is a trilateral collaborative project between the Associate, the University and a company partner (see www.ktpws.org.uk). Long Lane Deliveries provides a 'best in class' nationwide collection and delivery service throughout the UK of chilled and frozen goods for businesses involved in manufacturing and distribution of time and temperature critical goods via a fleet of around 50 vehicles.

The KTP Associate will be principally based at Long Lane Deliveries Ltd in Bellshill but will also spend periods of time at the University of Strathclyde as required.

Long Lane Deliveries are a rapidly growing company pivotal to facilitating changes in the food industry. Increasingly, there is a shift from ‘same week’ to ‘same day’ delivery and whilst this presents huge challenges for the supply-chain it offers an exciting opportunity for companies to address these challenges. LLD already offers a rapid and flexible service to customers and is therefore ideally positioned to grow the business further. However, the company currently heavily relies on the competence of its experienced workforce and the expert knowledge of the management team and remains a largely paper-based organisation. This project will mitigate risks and reduce inefficiencies by capturing and modelling knowledge in a shareable and useable format, turning knowledge embedded in key individuals into documented process steps that can then be followed by others, thereby removing a key stumbling block to the scalability of the business. Process and knowledge modelling will be paired with the application of operational excellence methods and will facilitate streamlining of the business operations with a view to improving efficiency and enabling the business to scale. The creation of decision support tools and/or heuristics/ guidelines to optimise costs will further improve efficiency and tactical planning.

This is an exciting opportunity for a tenacious and people-oriented individual to have a real impact on LLD and the food transportation industry in Scotland. It is anticipated that following this 24 month fixed term appointment; there may be the opportunity for you to be offered future employment within Long Lane Deliveries Ltd. The position has an additional allocated training budget of £4,000 for personal development (which could be used for Six Sigma Black Belt training or similar).

To be considered for the role you will be educated to a minimum of 2:1 Degree level in Logistics, Supply Chain, Management Science, Operations Management, Systems Engineering or a related discipline. You will have experience and/or knowledge of systems modelling, process improvement, data analysis and implementation of new processes in industry.

Whilst not essential for the role, applications are welcomed from candidates with relevant experience in a similar industrial environment.
